We went to totra for Valentines last night but left before eating, we just paid for our drinks. The Podgy little guy was so arrogant and was very mad when I requested no eggplant with my lamb, when we asked for a min to make our minds up on something else, we were told "No! we're very busy, make your mind up now".

I know there food is good because my mate is the chef (Who apologized about the service) and he cooks for us often at home.

We were shunned off like as to say "Dont like what's on the menu, dont eat here, we have enough good reviews". Well here is my bad review thanks!

Default crikey barry, you have been busy slandering the totara restaurant.

It looks like you have posted a review on every restaurant review site you can find. I will reiterate my comments re: personal attacks on people because of their physical appearance. Barry, it's shame that this clash of personalities has attracted this kind of personal attack. The person in question (let me point out every other review on i have ever read) has received nothing but rave reviews in the past (apart from the ones you have posted recently under different names). Lets be fare, Valentines night in any restaurant is without a doubt one of the busiest nights of the year. OK no excuse for less than perfect service but I don’t believe it is necessary or very gracious to personally attack someone to get your point across (referring to the "Podgy" comment) I am very surprised at time2dine for publishing such a personal attack and would suggest that it be removed. I have dined at the Totara many times over the years and never in that time have I ever experienced anything but perfect polite and informed service. The food is excellent beyond belief, and it comes as no surprise this year, Head Chef and Owner Peter Jackson has been named as the only Auckland Beef & Lamb Ambassador for 2008 (only 1 of 6 in the country). May I add that the Totara has retained the B&L Hallmark of Excellence Award for 10 consecutive years! So it can’t be all bad. The Beef and Lamb Board also take service into account when handing out these awards. The totara has so many award plates up on thier wall, the probably have enought to serve the meals on them! Maybe this was just a clash of personalities between you and the waiter, do you think?

Default umm

Comes down to that waiter being an owner doesnt it? Yes ok, the personal attack wasn't good and no, we're not the only one giving bad reviews there are others out there. And to say I'm posting under other names is not true, time2dine was my name as that's what they post, this site and others request a nickname and on all those sites I used icepick or icepicknz depending on whether it was used or not.

with regards to you replying to all my posts around with also not having posted on those sites ever before leads me to believe you work for them.

Simple fact, if someone provides me with bad service, I will report it, I will not just sit and eat their food because they have good ratings, one should receive good service too and not be walked over.

My parter said she would just eat the sauce on her fish, even though I know she would have taken a bite and left it, this is just the way she is. I refused to eat something if I dont like it, especially when I'm paying top dollar for the meal.

Don't get me wrong, I know their food is great and my mate would have taken the flack for my comments, but it's not only the food the counts, which was what I was told from the kind lady that took our bill.

Went to Totara last night 28/5. This is one of our places to go for special occasions and we have never been so disappointed. When we first went in I could detect a strong smell which I realised was curry... very off putting. I chose the lamb and it was fatty and stringy so much so my husband had to cut it up for me. The green beans were not al-dente just undercooked. My potatoes had, what I think, was a chunky tuna mayonnaise on them...which was really off putting. To top it all because the only vegetable side had curry sauce on, I chose fries which were the McDonalds type which you could not actually pick up with your fork only hands. Astonishing how this restaurant has changed so much. After complaining a little, we were offered free coffee, which we decided not to accept. My husbands meal was the eye fillet which was very good....but the accompanying vegetables had the same problem. New owners..beware!!
