Myself, my partner and an Indian friend went here for lunch. We booked online but needn't have bothered - the place was empty. This place is very expensive ($18 for most mains) with no lunch special. My partner and I ordered both ordered a thali and then watched as the components were microwaved - not for long enough as the food was lukewarm (I do hope we don't get food poisoning). There was planty of rice but the rest of the components were skimpy. Taste was edible but nothing special. Reports on our friends dosa masala concurred. No one asked us how our meal was and there was a total lack of attention towards us. Don't bother with this place - both the food and ambience were cold and unappetising. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME TO POST A FEEBACK. I am sorry for the delayed reply. You are absolutely true that we did not have lunch specials when you had come in. At that time we just moved from Hobson Street, on 1st July 05. We know that K Road is big for quick office lunches at a realistic price. We have now a superb lunch special. For $10.00 we are offering a limited quantity lunch thali ( not a buffet please) valid till end of sept 05, which has the following 7 items: 1.Butter chicken 2.Rogan josh 3.Dhal soup 4.Rice 5.Papadam 6.Yogurt dip 7.Mixed mango lemon pickle This has become an instant success. Unfortunately, this lunch deal is not available through time2dine booking. Now, regarding your complaint: Pricing: On our menu there are more than 60 items. Barring prawn dishes, there are only 4 dishes priced at $17.95, which comes with a free plate of rice. All the rest of the items vary starting from $2.95 and upward up to $16.95. We have kept these prices frozen since last few years. Thanks for reminding us, just few of the items the price needs to go up a little, which we might soon implement. Your order: You ordered a combo vege thali, which has the following components: Vegetable curry Rasam, tamarind and tomato soup Sambar, vegetable and lentil soup Home made yogurt Rice Papadam Pickle All for $13.95. Rasam and sambar soups need about 4 to 5 hours preparation time. It is obvious that we can not start preparing these soups on your order. As per health regulations, we need to keep the prepared food at 5 degrees Celsius. These soups are brought to edible temperature before serving. In winter in NZ, the soups do lose temperature. There are many ways of having a South Indian Thali. Till date I have not found a way of having all the components, without others losing temperature. No offence intended. You might get it right only after few trials. Lunch vs dinner. Satya has been mainly a very busy restaurant for dinners. Though it is slowly changing in K Road. to becoming busy in lunches as well. Taste: I honestly agree that combo thalis are mainly for having a well balanced diet of carbohydrate, protein, minerals and lactobacillus at an affordable price. That is the reason it is priced at $13.95 as opposed to $17.95. Ambience: I agree that we have a simple ambience. Colourful sarees adorn the ceiling. Celebrities have personally selected the pinkish hue for the walls. I personally selected the handloom textile, during my recent visit to India, for table cloths. My wife personally stitched the zari multicolour borders for the tablecloths. We are just 6 weeks old in K Road, please post some concrete ideas of improving the ambience, if practical I will positively follow. I respect your views. I can only sincerely apologise for your bitter experience at our place. Come in for another lunch, and please post your feedback if we have not yet improved. Please forget not, not to introduce yourself, during your next visit, to experience a normal and usual pattern from us. |

Have to say that this was the best Indian I have had in Auckland! We ordered takeout a couple of nights ago and the prices were very reasonable around $14 a main-staff were also very friendly. I would definately recommend it-if you go you have to try the Dahi Puri it is incredible! Plenty of choices and excellent vegetarian options. |

I was extremely impressed with Satya when I first dined there. It was recommended to us by a friend and it is seriously the best indian I have ever had! I am now a regular patron! The staff are all relaxed and good fun and every dish I have had has been delicious! It is well priced, with cheap corkage for BYO - I even took my work there for our staff Christmas party this year and received nothing but glowing comments! Its the best! |

This is my favourite restaurant since Hobson Street times. I love their food. I go to Satya only for food and the price. My recent visit impressed me quite a lot. It appears that the old staff are gone and new blood has come in. Service was never a factorI consider when I go to Satya. Lot of feedback about the service might have made the owners think. After all for the price what we pay for good quality consistent food are, cannot get everything. However serving staff should know more about their product what they are serving. Keep it up Satya, we love you.
