i used to work there and the place was pumping..too many change of ownerships.

Up until my last meal at the Jolly Farmer my family and I have been regular satisfied customers.

My group went there during the Christmas break expecting the same excellent food and service we always get but alas it was not to be.

SERVICE:

On entering we were shown to our table which had not been cleaned, or set out.

Despite there only being one other group dining at the time we waited for 20 minutes before I had to go to the front counter to ask to be waited on.

When the waiter finally arrived I noticed his unironed stained shirt & dirty fingernails.

We were handed soiled menus with fingerprints and food stains on them.

FOOD:

We all ordering fish & chips, with a sides of garlic bread. 15 minutes later the manager came down and told up that the only fish available was salmon and that he would normally charge $35 per plate for it battered with chips.

Myself and my guests were so disgusted with his manner and the suggestion that he was going to charge us so much for BATTERED salmon we changed our order to truckies steaks.

We had to wait nearly an hour more before the entrée arrived.

The garlic bread ($3.50 per serve) turned out to be two slices of white bread burned on one side with a semi solid slice of butter with bits of garlic poked in it sprinkled with salt (it used to be a small hot cob loaf or French stick).

One of my guests ordered a mocca and was served a flat white which she described as tasting like instant coffee – we did not see the coffee machine being used to make it so I assume it probably was.

My drink (a coke) was flat and warm. One of my other guests did not receive her drink at all.

The steaks were small but cooked to our specifications, there was no salad despite it being mentioned on the menu.

The waiter said that there were no deserts available – probably a good thing in hindsight.

After the meal I chanced a visit to the bathroom but left when I saw the condition of it – the waste baskets were overflowing onto the floor and the toilet not only had not been cleaned or flushed, there were flies (this is all at the beginning of the evening with only one other group dining).

When I approached the counter to pay for the meal (the waiter did not bring the bill as I requested) before I got there I was confronted by the manager who asked me in a rude and aggressive manner where I was going and what did I want. When I replied that I was going to pay the bill he just walked off. I waited at the counter for aprox 10 minutes before the waiter to my payment.

SUMMARY:

The service was really bad, food bad, the waiters personal hygiene left something to be desired, the manager was extremely rude and confrontational. I was extremely distressed and dissatisfied, and was embarrassed that I had recommended that we dine there!!

Isn't it a disappointment when a great restaurant changes owners, and the experience is just not the same when you back the next time.

Jolly Farmer, I hope this is just a bad day. I would be great if you could reply to this review with some steps you are taking to improve things. Bad reviews can be a great way of learning and improving, or a great way of losing business.

I dont think it was a one off. I got a similar story this morning from one of my neighbours regarding the hygene issue. (They went there last week.) She reported it to the council's health and safety officer. Hopefully he will sort them out.
