We had a group of 16 eating here on a Friday night. The initial service was a little slow but when all the orders were taken the food came fairly quickly and to their credit the 16 meals came out at more or less the same time. The food was some of the best indian I have had in Auckland and they had agreed to only charge us the corkage fee, for the wine we bought, for the people that chose to drink it rather than every person sitting at the table.
The whole evening went fairly well until the end when we were settling the bill.
As I was informed later they don't normally take individual payments for groups however they had started when one couple went up to pay so continued for the whole group.
After everyone had paid I went to the front desk to thank them for the meal when I was informed two people hadn't paid. This absolutely wasn't true Firstly the bill was hand written in pen with no refernce to the payments listed. There was one total at the bottom and then another total written elsewhere on the page. The payments they had received were scribbled down in pen on the paper. After processing through the eftpos payments I was told there were definitely two that hadn't paid. I believe this was a miscalculation on the restaurants side due to the method in which they were recording payments and the way the bill was written out. So I had to pay an extra $64 on top of the $512 we had already paid.
Aswell as this and I don't really blame the restaurant for this while we were standing outside another customer not so politely told us to close the door that we accidentally had left open when I walked up to close it he told me we should smoke 10m down the street. When I told him we would close the door he told me I should go 10m down the street to smoke and then told me to 'get f**ked' and slammed the door in my face. This was a fairly well dressed looking man in his late 40's Now this absolutely isn't anything on the restuarant staff however when I went back to the desk to continue with the payment issue I mentioned to the man behind the counter that their other customer just told me to 'get f**ked' because I wouldn't stand 10m down the street to have a cigarette. The staff member informed me that the customer wasn't a staff memeber and was no responsibility of the restaurant. Now this to an extent I understand however if you have just spent over $500 (actually regardless of the figure) in a restuarant and are getting verbally abused by other customers I would have expected management to be a little more proactive in dealing with the situation.
Perhaps that's just me but it gives you some indication as to what may happen if you are unfortunately getting abuse from another customer in this restaurant.
As I have mentioned the food and the general service was really good up until the end and if you are in a small group and don't have the luck of running into a rude, middleaged man then you may have a fantastic night here.
