OK, Having just had my 3rd and final attempt at this restaurant, I feel a need to warn people who are seeking a genuine Indian taste. I'll start with the GOOD points.. it is attractively priced, and the food is in good portions, and the meat in the dishes is nice and of good quality. But after trying 3 times... to get them to make a curry that actually had some SPICE in it, I am giving up. My last attempt, was a (after much repeating of myself to the person taking my order) "EXTRA Hot" Chicken Madras, other workmates ordered dishes of various spice preferences... But they all came back, completely spiceless. The Madras was like chicken with coconut cream poured over it. I've had spicier weetbix. In a way this was probably fortunate that they were all the same levels of spicy'ness (ie. none) as they don't indicate what curries are what when you get takeaway. Conclusion, if you are a true lover of Indian food, don't bother with Bolliwood, its like cooking at home with a can of watties curry sauce. |

The food was bad as they did not provide enough meat in the chicken with black pepper. The fat had not been removed too. They only put chicken thighs in the dish, and there wasn't any chicken breast in it as well. They had provided lots of rice, but the main purpose to go to an indian restaurant is not to enjoy rice because you can have that at home anyway. The toilet smells gross. Do they have people regularly cleaning the toilet? They need to understand that people do need to eat after going to toilet, so the hygiene of toilet is crucial. I went there because my friend was having her b'day do in there. She brought a cake, and they charged $10 for putting the cake in the fridge, and $1 for each person for providing plates. My advice is: "to all girls and guys who want to have a good dining experience, do not go to Bolliwood Restaurant at all as they exploit customers! Surely you do not want to be the OBJECT OF EXPLOITION!" |

Bolliwood reasturant from my opinion is a good restaurant- it provides everything as a bolliwood restaurant requires - such as good songs in the background so couples and children can enjoy my family was very impressed by the service and their gentleness towards the children. the toliets however were clean - a huge improvement since last time!! the food was great and so was the dessert- i loved it especially the mango kulfi!! i say people who want to enjoy a peaceful and a calm breakfast/lunch or dinner go to BOLLIWOOD!! |

I booked at Bolliwood for a thanksgiving dinner for my wife's Boss and his family. This was during end July this year. The dinner was lacklustre and I came back a wee bit disappointed. This too after I had received a few recommendations from friends who have been there. Since I am from the industry, here are a few of my observations and advise (perhaps) for the management. 1. Please check the level of spice that the guests need. I understand that in Indian cuisine, the spice preference varies from person to person and also that there are certain recipes that cant or shouldnt be altered in terms of the spice level, for example, kormas or shahi gravies. But besides these, spices can be varied. 2. Besides simply taking the order, let the ordertaker attempt to suggest dishes and seek preferences from the guests. Let there be an attempt to strike an amiable conversation, and yes, eye contact please. 3. It is advisable to check whether there are any repeat orders for breads. And if more than sufficient breads have been ordered initially, let the ordertaker suggest splitting the delivery, lest the breads would most certainly get cold, and thereby not be in their best quality at the time of consumption. The pricing was alright and so were the portions. The ambience was good, tables were amply sized, the restaurant didnt seem cluttered (perhaps because of the high ceiling)but it is always the staff that makes the difference, isnt it? And yes, please do let the guests know about the promotional water bottle kept on the tables. |

Its Valentines Day, you want that ideal setting and great service with a smile. DO NOT GO TO BOLLIWOOD. My partner organised a dinner at Bolliwood and i was quite excited. We had to travel from Orewa so the trip took about an hour (waste of time if you ask me). We entered Bolliwood and we could not believe the seating every couple was crammed right next to another couple. We were seated and after 15mins of waiting i finally decided to ask if we could order a beer. The beer took a further 10mins to actually get to us. We just let it fly at first. After having finished the beer we waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited, the list goes on, a gruelling hour till I had to ask if there would be any possiblity of been able to order something. We ordered 2 Maharaja banquets and advised that we have the entertainment card. He walked back a couple of minutes later to advise that we couldn't use the card as it was Valentines Day. That blew it for us, it was the final straw and we walked out refusing to pay corkage and advising them that their service was absolute s**t. We entered Bolliwood at 8pm at exited at 9.15pm without any food in our stomach and only one beer. I understand that the entertainment card might not of been usable on Valentines day but they should of advised of this when i told them on Valentines morning that i would be using it. |
