It's been a while since I posted a review but to be honest it's been a while since I dined at anywhere that really stood out, it all seems to be getting a bit samey at the moment with everyone trying to try too hard with fancy fusion food and microgreens and I keep walking away with that feeling I could have done the dish better justice myself at home. However it looks like I have been saved at last and someone with their culinary head screwed on right has taken over the old location of the Soleares Ave Restaurant and re-done the place very nicely indeed. The chef is Italian so that's the bias to the menu with a selection of aged ribeye and chicken mains as well as pastas. I have to say the prices are extremely reasonable, not many places you can get a perfectly cooked aged ribeye and get change out of $30 these days. It was really refreshing to see dishes created out of half a dozen quality ingredients cooked to perfection and left to speak for themselves, it's restored my faith in eating out and the real bonus is it's 10 minutes walk down the hill! As is my want I must always find the slightest flaw in any meal otherwise I'd lose my reputation as a whining pomme.....even though the calamari rings for starter were perfect it would have been nice with some kind of dip and a wedge of lemon is always nicer for squeezing over than a thin slice. But hey if that's my only gripe then this place must be pretty good! Keep up the good work guys and please don't go out of business like all the others in the area who have tried and failed! PS try the Tiramisu it's fantastic and definitely the best I've had this side of the equator. |

Thankyou Grace and Paul for a wonderful meal. My cousins from Sydney were looking for a nice seafood restaurant in Christchurch and we found you!The service was excellent and the meal was superb.Really nice decor and a relaxed atmosphere. The smoked scallops just melted in your mouth! The seafood linguini was perfectly cooked and we all enjoyed the Tiramasu for dessert.Well done! We will be back! Regards Meredith. |

This is my first attempt at adding a review, so I hope it's right! Like one of your earlier reviewers, my partner is a brilliant cook and he has recently felt that he could do better than a lot of the food we had been eating at Restaurants. Until Flames.... We read an advert in the local paper and decided to go, a decision we are so glad we made. The ambience was lovely, the food was divine, and as the blurb says Grace's lattes are to die for! My partner had just become a grandfather for the first time and Grace was almost as happy as we were I think, in a truly genuine way! We got talking to a pair of regular diners at the next table and they said that the quality of the food is consistently good. So all in all, an extremely pleasant experience and one we will certainly be repeating in the near future.....10 out of 10!!! Cherry |
