I discovered Pequeno early 2005, and immediately fell in love. Tucked away down a dark alley, Pequeno is small in size, but has a large heart. From the bouncers who will open the door for you and let you in with a wink and a warm greeting, you're instantly thrust into a dimly-lit utopia, the air tinged with the spicey scents of cinnamon and the smokey husk from the roaring inhouse fire. The intimate settings are complete with leather and fur couches, with a corner that can be closed off by lush velvet curtains.

The barstaff have always been friendly and knowledgeable. You may have to extract a few more dollars for the drinks, but you're paying for quality. They have a rather large bar and wine list, with many rare finds to be found, while their $15 cocktails are the most beautiful concoctions in creation. I'm a particular fan of their Cuban Royale (A cinnamon and raspberry based mojito, topped with apple juice), and the bar tenders know exactly how to entertain while muddling ice and mint leaves, or putting the final flourishing sprig of mint and lemon peel to your highballs.

If you're looking for sophisticated surroundings, and somewhere to get a beautifully crafted drink, Pequeno is a must-see.

Hehhe not a journalist...yet. I'm a finishing student at Otago University (English & Film/Media Studies), but heading to do a year Diploma in Journalism next year down in Southland.

I'm just a foodie at heart, and have always loved writing...
