This place was fully booked both Friday and Saturday we were in Martinborough, looked like mostly locals coming in with their GYO (grow your own) bottled wine. A fantastic greeting by the head waiter as were ushered to our table. The menu was extensive and great value for money in Martinborough, our mains were $17. Can't go past a Tom Yam Goong, I have a mental map of all the Tom Yams I've had around the world, always searching for the ultimate hot, sour, sweet, salty and fresh example! This was a good attempt, the broth was wonderful, fresh prawns, yum. We both went a curry and although they should be very different (Panang & Red Curry) they tasted kinda similar, maybe the same base. We also felt they were very sweet and very creamy. I'm not sure why you would add carrot and other western vegetables to Thai dishes but it seems most Thai restaurants in NZ do it - carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, capsicum??? Many traditional Thai curry's don't contain any vege, maybe the odd Thai eggplant in red curry, long beans in green, potato in Massaman, bamboo but they certainly don't dominate the dish which they seem to here in NZ. Oh well who am I to say what they put in their curry, people are obviously liking the food and of course we ate it too. I had asked for extra hot so we had a fun time taking turns on devouring the chillies until someone gave in! Credit to the chef for making it hot and I mean really hot, so many restaurants don't even after asking. Good selection of beers on the menu too. So when in Martinborough do go Thai, it's a great change from the other cuisine on offer, BYO, great prices and friendly efficient service.
