Default keywords in url for google not so important?

Ive read somewhere, maybe here that keywords in the url are not so important for google ranking but are for yahoo?

Is this true?

IM so new to this! Id love to know in a few words ( if anyone one would be so kind) whats the most important thing to have sorted for good SEO? keyword density? inbound links?

The most important things that people most often get wrong:
  • Search phrase selection - picking phrases that people are actually searching for
  • putting the words correctly in the header tags - title, meta description
  • putting the words correctly in the body content - h1 and opening paragraph
With these three things done correctly, many pages can rank heaps higher very quickly on Google.

However, there are many other issues that people get wrong that can make or break a site.

You'll find that most results in the top 10 for any search term don't have the keywords in the main url itself, but they may have it in the sub folders within the site.

1. Having the keyword in the URL is good for MSN. I cannot remember if for yahoo.too.

2. Make a well formed and clean code web site, and write for users. Don't mind about the keyword density.

3. Use unique page titles and unique meta tags, but always relevant to the page content.

4. Use headers <h1>, <h2>, etc uincluding there keywords where possible.

5. Try to get as many quality IBLs (backlinks) you can, but do not do that aggressively. Avoid reciprocals, if you can better get one way inks. Better add links to authority sites. But do not forget to exchange or to have one way links to your site which are relevant to your services/products.

6. Try to have a keyword(s) in your footer. Add your physical mail address there too.

7. Create and about us and Contact page, and in both include all your physical address, tel, etc
