Thumbs up Gaura's Good Food (University Campus)

Gaura's Good Food is a brand-new Hare Krishna restraunt situated on the University of Waikato main campus. It is located on the ground floor of the Student Union Building, near the bus stop within Gate 1. They serve good, hot, wholesome food from around 12:00pm - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Gaura's features a rotating weekly menu. Every meal features a main dish, flavoured rice, and fresh-fruit halva. All meals are a set rate of $5. Every meal is vegan, with the exception of the desert (which contains butter).

At the time of writing, the meals offered are (Mon - Fri, respectively): Satay vegetables and tofu, Sweet & Sour vegetables and tofu, Spinach and Tomato with Chickpeas, Samba, and Thai Green Curry. Whats more, each meal is served on a plate made entirely from potato - fully edible plates!

The proprietors (Muni and Sruti) have recently returned from Melbourne, where they ran a similar restraunt for some years. Both are of the Hare Krishna faith, and offer some very interesting perspectives on sustainable development and many other topics. At the time of writing, Gaura's seems to be the only Hare Krishna restraunt open in Hamilton!

Price: 5/5 - A $5 meal to fill a hungry man is difficult to beat.
Service: 5/5 - There are very rarely any lines, service is fast and friendly.
Meal Size: 4/5 - Meals are a good size, but could do with a little extra rice.
Meal Flavour: 4/5 - Meals vary with the weekday, but are usually superb.
Overall Value: 4.5/5 - An excellent place to eat, provided you are happy to experiment with unfamiliar flavours. Especially on a budget.

(Please note that I am not in any way associated with the restraunt, and I am certainly not being paid to advertise. Gaura's is simply cheap, good food which I feel deserves a decent review.)

Cheers,
- Eric

I also love ther food here, and just thought I would add that now they have an "exta hungry option of $8 which has loads of rice! I think this is the best value for money on campus and also the best tasting lunch on campus. Always very consistent, and the staff are lovely! Love the popadoms!
