My only reservation about 'Hopin Stopin' (apart from the illiterate name, which annoys me every time I pass it-haven't they ever heard of a comma or a hyphen ? It looks as if it should rhyme with 'open') is the music which is always at an annoying pitch, often not loud enough to listen to, but loud enough to hear, or loud enough to interfere with a conversation. Why do we need a radio playing, anyway ? It sounds cheap & nasty.

The food is great-huge helpings, though, so ask for a doggy bag or have one meal between two ! The 'stacks' are particularly nice & so are the wedges. Eat here if you want to eat without leaving the main road; don't go to Riverhaven in Huntly.

Most Huntly cafes are great & really good value, but Riverhaven has a radio going at full volume (who wants ads for specials on tyres booming in their ears as they eat, especially when they are looking out at the lovely, tranquil Waikato River ? Tacky, tacky.), is an overpriced tourist trap (most of the food has no prices listed, so be prepared for a shock-this is always a bad sign) and had hundreds of fluorescent lightbulbs going all day, so it is like eating in the KGB hq.

Eat at Hop-in, Stop-in or turn off & go to Huntly's Main St, but avoid Riverhave; should be called Sharkhaven. An example; Richfield's 250g chocolate bars were $8.Nice souvenirs & clothes, though.

LOOVED the chutney/jelly they served with our meal... it was a while ago though so i cant actually remember much else, but if i can still remember the condiments then it must have been GOOD

My girlfriends and I often pop in to Hopin Stopin for lunch and sometimes Hubby and I for a weekend breakfast. The meals are always generous, piping hot and served with a smile. The place is really warm & homely in winter and in summer you can sit out under the trees and enjoy the river view. There are times when we have had a bit of a wait for our meals but, but its understandable when you see how busy they are at times..... hey that just shows the popularity of the place! This is one of the few places where you can get your coffee nice & hot too ( I am a real fusspot when it comes to coffee) As for the person complaining about the 'illiterate' name...its all in fun so get a life!!! I will keep on dining at Hopin Stopin and every time I get out of town visitors I will take them there...Keep up the good work Girls!!!

I experienced this cafe yesterday as I was driving through Taupiri and I had a piece of their caramel slice. It was the best caramel slice I had ever tasted and I would love to get the recipe for it.

I LOVE Hopin Stopin!!! its like my favourite cafe i love going there on special occassions e.g. mothers day, fathers day or birthday etc... the staff are lovely!!! they make you feel wanted and they serve you really well and your not having to wait for your meals for ages! i know 2 staff there and they tell me how much they love it there.. they are sooo blessed to be able to work there... the food is MAGNIFICIANT just love it!
