Thumbs down Not Recommended

Only last weekend, a group of us decided to experience Le Dome for Lunch. It was one of those restaurants on our "to try list". We had pretty high expectations due to the fact that most times we drove past it was pretty busy. These expectations we're quickly dashed.

The Sunday we went was a particularly busy day so we waited for a table. Once one became free (an outside one) we sat down. 20mins later a waitress finally came to see us and cleared the table, but didn't wipe it down. We ordered our meal and then drinks (which were delivered promptly) and had to wait an hour for our meals. During the wait, one of our friends who ordered a speciality beer, noticed lint on top of the head of his glass (suggested glass wasn't cleaned properly. Once he managed to get the chance to complain, the duty manager came out with a scowl on his face, told him that it was normal with that beer, but would come back with a fresh glass. Thats all he came back with, he tipped his beer down the sink and never offered to give him a replacement beer.

Once the food finally arrived, it was very average, especially for the higher than normal price. (I guess they are covering for the rent of the place). Its also not the same served on a dirty table.

None the less, pretty dissatisfied. On the plus side it rated well on the taste of its beer though (I think thats probably why people go there), but thats not enough to bring me back.

Food 5/10
Presentation 5/10
Service 1/10
Environment 3/10
Value for Money 4/10

Default What a pity

Word of mouth is a great thing, so is seeing a place often full.

What a pity when the finishing touches are not looked after - an apology for a long wait, a replacement beer - they took it away, they should at least refill it, a happy face instead of a scowl, a cleaned table ... Smiles and apologies can often turn negatives into positives.

Restaurants need to realise that its those little finishing touches that make the payoff for the big capital and staff expense that goes into a fine establishment.

Do you dine out often? I look forward to seeing a review of a restaurant that you found fantastic. See you around.

Many of my friends love the speciality beers on offer and we often end up dining here. The service is generally good, but sometimes little things are lacking - ie removing empty glasses and plates promptly, advising that a certain spirit is not available upstairs when it is downstairs. The food is what gets to me - sometimes the food is wonderful and yet the next week the same dish can be disappointing. The removal of the frozen Bavarian Berries with white chocolate sauce from the menu is a huge let down. I also don't think I've ever seen a menu here without a few spelling errors either.
