Thumbs down Valentines has deteriorated

Valentines is not what it was.

The variety is less, and the quality is poor.

The 'seafood chowder' was basically coloured white sauce with a few shreds of fish in it.

The hot dishes section was a huge disappointment, from the cold chips to what looked like greasy hamburger patties.

The 'beef stroganoff' ( so-called; beef stodge would would be a better name)was also thick white sauce with a few shreds of meat and an occasional mushroom, and was basically inedible. The fried fish was little more than batter-if there was any fish in there, I couldn't find it. The vegetables were tough and leathery and the cheeseboard had shrunk to two dishes of supermarket mousetrap, one of blue vein & one of Camembert.

What has happened ? We certainly won't be going there again.

I would give them 1/10, if that. Very poor value-who wants to eat all that stodge ? The little bread rolls were okay, I must admit.

Thumbs up Huntly Food

Huntly doesn't go in much for finicky fancy food, but if you're after fresh, nicely cooked food that is fancy enough to suit almost anyone, stop off in the Main St. Here in Huntly, we like to get value for money. Try the Dragon Wah for fish & chips that they even serve in a pottery bowl (or the paper if you prefer to be a purist); a nice big piece of fish & generous helping of chips for $3, and, if you're an old lady, the pretty girl behind the counter will carry your order out & put her arm through yours to support you.

The pies, filled rolls and other bakery items from the town's cafes are excellent; large doughnuts for $1, pies $1.80-$2, really imaginative filled rolls from $2 (or $4.50 for a panini), real old-fashioned custard squares and similar treats alongside the more poncy muffins...biscuits the size of breadplates for $1 & a meal of 2 eggs, bacon, chips, a piece of steak & something else (hash browns ?) for $8.50.

Almost all the town eateries are Asian owned & operated. This means that while much of the food is old-fashioned Kiwi classics, a lot of it has a fresh twist. If you're passing through Huntly, stop for a meal and take in some of the sights.

Definately a let down, the selection was average, the taste was average, the service was average, we pretty much got exactly what youd expect from valentines!

The food was pretty bad, overcooked and poor quality. The service was attentive though. Not worth the money.

Default Staff uninterested

We visited recently and were very disappointed. Two of our children have Coeliac Disease and must avoid gluten, I asked the staff in the kitchen which foods might be safe they didn't care and/or didn't have a clue.
The food was bland and over cooked. Standards have dropped for sure.

Thumbs down Wrong Advertising

behind the counter is a sign saying.... Dinner $24.95 Monday to Friday.
Went to pay for 5 dinners and at the time presented an Entertainment Club Voucher for 20% 0r Maximum $20.
Was told that if I presented the voucher then the price was $ 29.95 per meal as the $24.95 price was a special.
My argument is that nowhere in the Restaurant is there a sign to say that this is a special.
Rang the General Manager and after explaining to him what had happened he basically told me that he wasn't interested.
Valentines in Hamilton has now lost 5 customers

Is max $20, a max of $20 no matter what the starting price is ???
Is 20% off $24.95 $19.96, therefore so near to $20 that in all effect it is $20 ???
Or was the $20, actually a max of $20 off the whole bill?

Dinner Mon to Fri means that "normally" the price would be the weekend price, or that is what they would be trying to say. But for them to treat the voucher with contempt is not the nicest.
