The meal was ok but had to wait for near an hour & a half for the main & we were second seated on the night!Ended up clearing our own table & paying the bill while wondering if they served dessert or refilled drinks.

I just recently dined at the Strathern and found it to be a great experience all over. The food was great, friendly staff, wonderful surroundings and all at reasonable price. Would definitly go again. One thing you have to make sure you take with you is an appetite.

From what I understand, the Strathern Inn had issues in the past. Well, if my last three great experiences over the course of a year at the Strathern are anything to go by, put those issues to rest in your mind.
The last time I was there, 2nd May 2010, I had pre-arranged with them to have a romantic table for two. Boy, did they deliver or what. It was a quiet Sunday, but even so, the Inn set aside a lobby area room (note that the Inn is an old established building, so imagine a character building but with some modern comforts like heaters), large in relation to our table space, for just the two of us, and decorated the table as well as old fireplace with rose petals, and candles too. That alone, to my mind, was brilliant customer service and regard. Service was great and polite, food was excellent (nicely cooked roast - if anything, they are undercharging people for te food let alone a fine experience), just a really good way to round off a day after getting engaged.
The other two times we just turned up once, and booked once for a general meal out - again, service was complimentary, food outstanding. Recommended place for dinner out, all in all.
Actually, I apologise, I feel a bit stingy now for only rating the Inn experiences only 'Very Good', I should really have put 'Outstanding'. Thanks Strathern Inn, you are a credit to the Invercargill Restaurant scene.
