Default NZ is not a gastronomic desert

I visted Kaitaia in August with my wife to visit our daughter and her young family who, emigrated in January this year.

Our last evening was spent having a meal at the Orana. My background is in catering and as a professional caterer I feel the quality of meal provided was on parr with any provided by the higher quality restaurants in England. The care given to the childrens meals was outstanding. I could not fault the quality and presentation of the food in any way.

Hopefully we will revisit NZ in the future and the Orana will be on our lits of places to revisit.

Good luck to them.

Regards

Ian

I stayed overnite here and opted to dine in the restaurant! Decided to go for the steak and was waiting to be disappointed. The disappointment is a knee jerk reaction from having so many bad steaks back in Auckland (excluding akld top end eateries/hotels) I dined with a fellow traveller hailing from the meat industry and we were most impressed with plates served! The staff advised me immediately there would be a delay as 5 rooms had ordered room service. I opted for the steak (medium) with mushroom sauce, garlic butter, chips n salad, This is a standard issue meal one would expect from any basic restaurant. It was cooked to perfection and the cut was of a generous size. The decor remindes one of a Cobb & Co (minus the young ditsy waitress whose forgotten to come back with your drinks order earlier)!
The breakfast is good here too and very popular with out of town contractors lodging there and near by

Default Great dining for the weary traveller/tourist

Once you finally get over the gorge and you ass is tired n hungry I strongly recommend dining at the Orana hotel! The steak is awesome and the meals remind me of cobb n co meals when you were able to get them in Akld! Many a weary sales rep and contractor crash n dine here!
Big breakfast is generous here too
