My lunch experience at the Fayre & Firkin in August 2005 was not great. The food was O.K. but not exceptional. The decor features some rather odd ornaments around the fireplace, but I guess it's possible to ignore these. However, the standard of the service is decidedly indifferent, almost as if they couldn't care less whether they had any customers or not. The day I was there I was the only customer.

We dine at Fayre and Firkin often and have found the dinner service outstanding. They are an English style restaurant not a cafe as an other review is suggesting.

The food is always consistantly good ( not fine dining) but good restaurant food. The prices are great and the meal always makes it to your table fast even when the restaurant is full, which seems to be most nights that we are there.

In reply to Chefieboy: my review did NOT suggest that Fayre & Firkin is a cafe. It is a restaurant that also opens for lunch on Fridays and Saturdays. I am pleased that Chefieboy had a good experience dining there: I certainly didn't.

Went into Fayre & Firkin the other night for dessert and coffee. There were a few people in.
Service gets a Meh,
Food gets an 'OMG that was awful' and another Meh.
Coffee was Brilliant!

I have lived in Murrays Bay for well over a year now and we have left going to the Fayre & Firkin off until last week when we went in to have dinner with a friend. Should have left it a bit longer me thinks. This place has potential but the food was over priced for pub food and when it came out it was quite average. For the same price of the Fish and Chips you could get a main at the Narrow Table around the corner which has excellent food. Ad to that the beer i ordered was flat and the Duchess potatoes that my wife ordered tasted like they had been sitting in the kitchen all day waiting to be microwaved. Staff were friendly but if the food aint good then you should be charging pub prices for it and not restaurant prices. Lucky we had a voucher and got $30 off the whole bill or I would have been very unhappy about the whole thing.
