We are going to rave on here ...'cause we can. We found this place by accident because I felt like having something to eat in Dominion Rd. Had a look at a couple of establishments that did nothing for us and driving down the road saw the sign, stopped and peered through the closed venetian blinds. Couldn't really see in and so intrigued, in we went. Pleasantly surprised we were with the effort that had been put into creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with lots of homely touches. Very friendly and efficient service and the last time we visited we left feeling like we had made new friends in Tony, Barbara and sister Lou. The menu was varied and full of traditional dishes learnt from all over the world and made with fresh game, caught by the cook! So far my favourite is the clay-pot pheasant, but we have only just begun... Accompanied by Roberts live guitar music throughout the meal you can then sit back and relax with a traditional Turkish coffee, or port, and chat in their cosy bar area. This we did on our last visit and ended up with our party of 3 having a lengthy chat (rave) with Mine Hosts and Hostesses in the bar until the (very) late evening. I asked Tony how long they had owned this particular restaurant - 17 years and a life-time of world-wide experience having worked all through Asia Minor and Europe. And Robert the guitarist has been there for 17 years as well... Tell you something? We have found it hard to put into words - so best advice is to just go there and Experience................. Tony's choice on the next visit will be the Russian Duck. Leah's? Undecided - so many choices.

Had a great experience at this restaurant. The building is so nondescript but a treasure to find. And they have been here for 17 years. The meal was delicous. I had the fettucine and my friend had the chicken and both were yummy. The settings were spacious and soft live guitar playing in the background was just the right touch. Would definitely recommend going there. |

Leah and I do not now get out much for a dine due to altered circumstances but we keep returning (not often enought for Leah) to the Cazador. We have been back a couple of times over the last year with a large party, the last time being 17 of us. It matters not as the quality simply does not change. Both times there were a contingent of overseas visitors and they were suitably impressed. If you read our comments and have not been to the Cazador - then go. You will not be dissapointed.

Hi Lil Hobbits Been a while since I have heard from you. Wondered where you had gone. Thanks for your last couple of reviews. So what is the change in circumstances? Baby's arrived?

Cazador has an honest warmth, itimacy and simply good food you find in many little French and Italian village restaurants so it was a pleasant surprise to find a place like this in Auckland. It has a rustic appeal at the front of house that made one relax almost immediately. Sure it looks a little tired, a little out of place and not be to all tastes but we, particularly the male half of we, found this game restaurant a very pleasurable experience. It offers a diverse menu that certainly warrants a few more return trips before we can decide which course is our respective favourite. The live guitar was a real bonus. Cheers, Joandmark.
