Thumbs up Very Nice!

We went for dinner last night (our first time out alone in a VERY long time!) to Long Bay, and after a small issue finding the place, we walked on up the stairs.
The wait staff were friendly, and showed us to our table quickly. The menu was large enough for good variety, but not so big that we had to take forever to choose! With most menu options, there is a suggested wine match, available by the glass.

We chose a whole bottle of Ransom Dark Summit, Cabernet Franc Malbec 01 however, and It was lovely.

I had the Panfried Squid with lemon & garlic, celery, fennel & parsley salad for 12.50 which was a let down to be honest. The salad accompanying it was fantastic, and really lifted the dish, but the squid itself just was the wrong texture for my taste and woefully underseasoned. Husband thought it was just fine though, so may have just been a personal taste thing.
Husband had the Carpaccio of Beef with shaved parmesan, Truffle oil and with water cress for 12.50, the truffle oil balanced nicely with the parmesan and delicate beef.

For a main course I ordered the Hawkes Bay Lamb Rump with
Potato gratin, stacked ratatouille, salsa verde, beetroot jus for 28.50
It was absolutely brilliant. I however do like a medium cooked rump, make sure you specify at this restaurant if you don't like your meat bleeding! It was just so savoury and lovely, top presentation.

Husband had the Aged Eye Fillet of Beef with glazed silverbeet, creamed horseradish potato mash, and French onion reduction for 29.50
Again his was outstanding, though he asked for the rare side of medium, and when it arrived it was more the done side of medium, just a few touches of real pink, delicious and tender all the same.

Dessert was Sticky Date Pudding with Vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce for 11.50 and Chocolate Tart with morello cherries & vanilla whipped cream 11.50. YUM! The pudding was soft and moreish, and the Tart was just luscious. I'm drooling now thinking about it.
We had a glass of Port and the dessert chardonnay with it too and oh, just divine. I did order the dessert merlot that was on the menu, but it was no longer available but still on the menu, naughty them! The Ten year old port was lovely anyway.

We finished with a properly made espresso and we sat back with big smile, pleasantly full, but not stuffed and uncomfortable, so the portion sizes were just right.

We definitely got what we paid for. Despite the bad press this place may have recieved in days past, our experience was Fantastic and we will definitely be back. We were also able to get in (albiet at 7:45) when we couldn't get in anywhere else.

The staff were great, our water glasses and wine glasses were consistantly filled, the wine etiquette was correct if you care about that sort of thing, they got the orders right without writing them down, good for them.

OK so enough rambling. We thought it was great.
ETA: The Place seemed very child friendly too, although we didn't ask if they could do child meals as were were alone for the night, there were LOTS of kids there.

We went back again recently, and although the menu has changed it was just as nice. The Squid entree was far better than last time and my Husband's chicken livers were outstanding (so he says! )
The duck leg was perfectly cooked and so was the steak.
The service was just as outstanding as last time, though this visit there were no children, just lots of parties of four I still highly recommend!
