I love japanese food and this is one of the nicest japanese restaurants I have tried. Maybe the nicest actually. The food is beautiful, really fresh and tasty. I have been a few times and tried lots of different things on the menu and they have all been great. Even the tea is yummy. The staff are very friendly too.

i went there with some of my friends for dinner because all other restaurants were close, that was probably tghe reason we went there because i used to work in orewa and people said hayami food is realy expensive and doesnt taste that great. and i have to agree with it. there sashimi and sushi werent fresh and it was way to small for the price. it costs us around $150 for dinner for 4. i wouldnt recommand this restaurant to anyone i know. |

Their service is horrible. When we got there, we told them we have already booked a table for 4 like 2 weeks ago but the man was like 'eek we don't have room tonight'. So we stood there awkwardly for a couple of minutes while they figure out what to do. I saw out of the corner of my eyes that the waiter ask a table of four to move so he could set up the tables *while they were still drinking*. I can't imagine how rude this is. When we finally got our table the waiter kept apologising to us, I don't know why, he should be apologizing to the people he just kicked out. When it came to ordering, the waitress couldn't really understand english and asked the man (who I believe is the manager) to take over. He ain't that much better at english. No offence but if you can't understand what we are ordering how will you get what we want? I have to say, I'm impressed with the menu they offer, it's elegantly designed. And even though they don't have the vegetarian section on display we asked about it and they offered to do four vege teriyaki for us which is special. We were excited but then we waited and waited and we started counting down till our food comes. It took an HOUR (AN HOUR!!) for our meals to come. We were pissed and starving but they offered no consolation except saying sorry like 10 times. c'mon sorry ain't enough for a belated meal. when our meal came we were too starved to consider if the food does taste good or it might be that we are too hungry and will eat anything. Oh and one more thing, I know their tiny little restaurant is busy that night doesn't mean that they can just take your 'plates' away when your done but your friends are still eating. all in all their service is terrible, timing is poor, food taste ok. But I have to say I'm impressed by the decor of the restaurant and their menu. |
