Surcharges on Public Holidays really gets me mad so the Talisman Cafe adding 15% is in the "greedy category" with all the others! And just to add insult to injury....no Chai for your Latte! Grrrr!

I had the worst customer service experience I have ever had in the Talisman Cafe last week. My wife and I ordered a cooked meal and two coffees. we were asked if we wanted the coffees immediately or with our meals. We chose to have them immediately. We paid and then were told that they were expecting a large group of people and if they arrived we would have to wait. We both felt this was pretty rude but as we had paid let it go. We sat at our table for 12 minutes and then the large group (20 approx) started to arrive. I asked the lady at the counter if our meals were on the way (we hadn’t received our coffees). She said no as they were waiting for the group. I asked for my money back and she said “where is your bill”? We got our money back and I firmly stated that we were not happy with the service and wouldn’t return. The lady behind the counter didn’t seem to have any understanding that she was rude and giving totally abysmal customer service. This week I have mentioned this to a range of people and have been surprised at the number of people who have been there and experienced a wide range of serious customer service failures. Definitely don’t go there – but do go to the Ohinemuri Winery a bit further up the road where they are very welcoming and friendly and the food and wine are both excellent.
