This restaurant has the worst Public Relations I have ever come across. Several years ago myself & my partner entered the Lindauer Café for a meal. The menu was not to our liking so we decided to purchase a drink each. My partner then went to use the toilet while I bought the drinks. The manager said (very rudely) "You are not allowed to use the toilet unless you are dining here!" We were both quite stunned and left immediately without purchasing anything. On 1 January 2012, while traveling through Woodville we decided to look for somewhere to have a light meal and visited the same place. Once again the smell of greasy food and the basic choices in the menu were not to our liking. I went to purchase a drink & my partner went to get a drink of water from the water cooler. There was another couple sitting at a table and in front of these customers, the management announced loudly and rudely - "THE WATER IS ONLY FOR DINERS?" We suddenly remembered that this café was the same one we had visited several years ago and was obviously under the same management. In disgust and amazement we once again walked out without completing our purchase. It is unfortunate that some people decide to work within the hospitality industry and do not move with the times – that is - for the sake of providing a free glass of water or the use of a toilet for a tired traveler they lost a small purchase and the chance of good feedback which would undoubtedly benefit their business. This establishment has the attitude of the 1950s archaic/dictatorship instead of the friendly helpful nature of most modern food outlets, who recognise the importance of good public relations. |

Your story reminds me of something entirely opposite. That of a Tyre company that repaired punctures for free, irrespective of whether the customer had purchased the tyre from them. All in the name of doing the nice thing, and in doing so getting a good name and more tyre sales. Goodwill goes a long way in business. The opposite creates problems. |
