Thumbs up Bean Around the World Queenstown

Bean Around the World in Athol Street Queenstown has the best Moccachino I have ever tasted, and I've been drinking Moccas solely for the last 8 mths, in many cafes in Dunedin, Queenstown, Cromwell, Lawrence and Alexandra. All of the other cafes I've tried offer up a Mocca that tastes like a Hot Chocolate. One that you think possibly has a hint of coffee, but you really don't know for sure! Not so at Bean Around the World. This is a deliciously balanced, predominantly coffee Mocca with a subtle but not overwhelming chocolate partner on board. And man is the coffee rich, smooth and yummy! Top marks guys!
Bean offers only a couple of food choices, three sweet cakes and one type of Panini, so there is no agonising choice involved. I give top marks for their panini too, a wonderful pesto, cheese (I guess Edam) and ham the day I tried it. As I am more than sick of wilted designer lettuce in a panini after it has been grilled this was a welcome treat. Flavours intense, not too much, but more than filled the lunch sized space I had, price great at $5. I have only tried their Brownie (I know - with a Mocca! what can I say, I need calories!). It was the richest chocalityist brownie I have eaten. Lovely big pieces of walnut indented in the top. But here's the thing, it was baked perfectly, didn't seem slightly uncooked as many fudgy brownies do. I've been baking my mom's american brownie recipe for 32 years, as well as, ahem, often trying brownies when at cafes, so take my educated word for it!
No eftpos here, yes it's back to the 80s and I was glad to go! A low key, non ritzy but friendy place, they keep it simple, they keep it good.
And no, they are not paying me one red cent for this review!
