With vBulletin in the version 3.5 series, I don't need to make lots of changes to php files as I used to. I use the vBSEO plugin product to do the site changes for me, then I concentrate on the onpage SEO.

Onpage SEO is most important, and is able to rocket sites very high on the search engines, especially when they are already ranking well for specific terms on Google (and when they are using vBSEO).

The basic idea - it is very hard to rank for something unless you have those exact words at prominent places on your site.

I follow through all the changes mentioned on my thread Search Engine Optimize vBulletin 3.5, and have special emphasis on search phrase selection specific to your forum.

Yes, you may be able to do the hack, but do you know SEO well enough to get the wording right to enable you to get high.

There are always four steps to SEO

1. Onpage - getting the onpage wording right
2. Onsite - getting the mechanics of the package sorted, and site map and interlinking through the package
3. Whole of web - getting sufficient links from outside
4. Time - Google takes time to firstly spider your forum, and then to rank you. Sometimes even after doing everything right, you may have to wait 8+ months to rank well for competitive phrases = Google sandbox

I can do the first two, and give you direction on the best ways to obtain links.

Procedure:

1. PM me with your vBulletin forum details and I will accept or other wise the assignment
2. I will sign on as a user on your forum
3. You can grant me administrator priviledges
4. PM me with the FTP details of your site.
5. Completion within a week - generally 1-2 days (fitting in with other work)

In the Admin Control Panel

Users
Search for users
- search for user T2DMan
- change the primary usergroup to - Administrators

Then
Click on the red "Update or Add Administration Permissions"
All Yes
Save
