Default Would Server Load increase with the SEO VB hacks?

The question is, where are the code changes, what do they do, how often are those links clicked on.

latest post, next thread, prev thread...

These have extra code to get the thread number and page number when clicked on, then redirect to those url's. So yes, some extra, but only when clicked on.

I don't see an issue re speed or server utilisation - the bigger issue is how your server would be able to cope with the extra traffic a properly seo'ed forum would get.

The is also less server load from the google media bot and googlebot and other bots since less url's.

LOL are you in sales - very good point

i am going to do this - is everything laid out in the first couple of pages or are there more items of interest in the following pages? haven't had time to go thru all of them yet.

Thanks again for this!

Default :) Working on my sales techniques signing up Sydney restaurants

Hi Trainer

Hacks are on the first several pages, amendments are made to the first pages, then a post added to the bottom to let people know there have been changes.

As "payment" I would appreciate a prominant link to "Sydney Restaurants" url http://reviews.time2dine.com.au/forumdisplay.php?f=6

I have found it interesting - you really have to get everything right - my latest peeves have been that even when you get everything right, Google can rank new sites low - ie Sydney Restaurants.

But the joy is certainly there that when you have an established website, it is so easy to create properly SEO'ed pages that rank well on Google.

I will be most interested to see where my latest "SEO VBulletin" page ranks - yet another phrase that people would search for regarding our fabulous forums.

You forgot to mention the one in the header template, for the logo.

Edit: Also, just noticed that archive links to yoursite/index.php. Does this matter?

Thanks

 <div class="smallfont" style="padding-left:33px;">$foruminfo[title]</div>

This works better after:

Code:
<if condition="$thread['pagenav"]"><span class="smallfont" style="white-space:nowrap">( <img class="inlineimg" src="$stylevar[imgdir_misc]/multipage.gif" alt="$vbphrase[multipage_thread]" border="0" /> $thread[pagenav] <if condition="$show[pagenavmore]">... <a href="showthread.php?$session[sessionurl]t=$thread[threadid]&amp;goto=lastpost$thread[highlight]">$vbphrase[last_page]</a></if> )</span></if>
Otherwise the navigation for multiple pages of a thread gets moved on to another line under forum title.

Just been going through the hacks again, after updating to 3.07. I wish there was an easier way. It took a while! Oh well, at least it brought me back to this thread where you have made some more changes I see.

I totally replace my header template, so its not one that I have made a note of.

Default Archive hacks - $vboptions[forumhome].php

I have made an additional hack for the archive/index.php and archive/global.php files - so that the index.php page is always referred to as the root, not index.php. Please see the first post on the following url:

How necessary is this one? Reason I ask is because it makes the page look bad, more spacing etc. Possible to put it on another line inline with something?

Thanks to seeing your link, I have now looked at the "vBulletin articles" hack, and also found a vbulletin surveys hack. Now to get them onto my site!

Added 28 Jan 05

Having a think about the keyword density issue for the forumdisplay's. I have not been able to get them high for their keyphrase very easily. The phrase has only been in the title/metas/firstwords, then in general not in the rest of the page.

So, I have now added the forum title just underneith each thread as listed on the page, should do wonders for keyword density, and even though it is being repeated, it is always next to unique words, so no duplicate content issues.

threadbit template

after
Code:
<if condition="$show['gotonewpost"]"><strong>$thread[threadtitle]</strong><else />$thread[threadtitle]</if></a>
add
Code:
 <div class="smallfont" style="padding-left:33px;">$foruminfo[title]</div>
