Default different position for firstwords

Hi again

You may have noticed where I put the firstwords on my forums, and that it looks different to the instructions that have been on this hack.

Well now I have updated, and you can have the firstwords in the navbar as well.

Please follow the instructions in the following post:

Default a funny space in the code - vbulletin code wrapping

Code:

global $vboptions, $perpage, $postid, $threadedmode, $postinfo, $pagenumber, $bbuserinfo, $DB_site;
VBulletin added a funny space - trying to wrap the text - it wasnt there in the code, but when it shows on the screen it is there. So I have broken the line up with spaces after the comma and now its okay.

Sorry.

Hi, I like the way you've done the first words. Fits in nice with the Vbulletin style. How come you've kept a html archive though?

Default SanDeep - lots more work needed

Hi San-Deep

I have had a browse through your forum - you have lots more work still to go.

I have done the hacks on another forum yesterday on a contract basis - It has been good actually "doing" the hacks again on a forum, and following the instructions I have written. As a result, I have added a few more items on the posts.

Please carefully read through and follow through the hacks I have listed, you have many more to do:
  • Archive - as has been mentioned in the previous post, and on your post, you have kept the html archives. I have changed the archive/index.php and archive/global.php files so that the actual thread is listed. One of the main objectives of the seo vb hacks is to place focus on the actual threads. There is no other effective site map for the threads.
  • lastpost/newpost/prevthread/nextthread ... none of these hacks have been actioned on your forum. These are essential as they again place focus on the actual threads and make sure that each thread only has one url to represent it.
  • BIGGIE - firstwords - for people that are not registered (all search engines) you have the big text block introducing the forum. The text block that you describe the thread, or forum should be the first thing that is mentioned. One of the forums was about "Hardware" - try and use the word "hardware" repeated twice/three times in the first 149 characters of those words - better still, look for a phrase via the digitalpoint keyword suggestion tool that people are searching for and you have a chance at ranking on Google for. Then use that phrase in the title, meta description, and firstwords.
  • You need the <h1> tag on the navbar template - again, further emphasis on what the thread/forum is about, and indication that the words that follow are important to the thread.
  • There are possibly other part of the hack that you have not actioned yet.
  • Google has released a patent in the last few days that among many other things talks about breaking the page down into sections - this confirms my "firstwords" concept - the first words of the pages are therefore a very important part of the whole seo mix.
As mentioned, apart from advice here I am available on a contract basis - $USD75 per hour.

Default SanDeep's sig - interesting - further talk re archive

Hi Sandeep

You have an interesting signature - especially regards SEO. I like how you have a link to the archive - means that you get lots of PR to the archive. But I really think that you then need to link through to the actual threads rather than to the html version. You still get the adwords on the actual thread. I have talked at length on this thread about why still another copy of the thread is not a good idea.

I have had it said - "there is a link to the actual thread on the html version" - but this is a further step in, and therefore one less PR than it could be, and in competition to the main thread, further dividing up the PR and link text that should be going to the main thread...

My version of the archive is a pet hobby horse of mine. It is a VERY essential part of the whole SEO VB process.

If you were wanting to focus on the archive version, you would have to actually SEO that version ie title, meta's, <h1> and firstwords. You have not done this.

It is also hard to properly SEO the html version, since at all times, there is a competing actual version - SEO is all about having ONE main page per search term on your site, then having a secondary page to give the indented result. The page two of a thread or forum is an ideal page two, having the same content via the html archive page on a user perspective is not the best indented result - it is the same informaiton.
