Default vBSEO and their Google/Yahoo Sitemap program

Hi all.

vBSEO is an amazing product, and they have just released a great new version. Among other things, it adds some variables that take the first words of your first post, and allow you to use them in your meta desciption and firstwords on your page.

Remember how I use the firstwords concept in the Navbar, and how I have recommended changing the meta description. The vBSEO enhancements mean that these can be far more unique and clickable for people.

They have also just released a Sitemap creator that I now recommend over my own version. But wait a couple of days till they get the bugs ironed out before you install.

[PHP]echo "<p class=\"largefont\">$vbphrase[view_full_version]:</p> <h1><a href=\"$vboptions[bburl]/\">$vboptions[bbtitle]</a></h1>
<p>".($p?"Page $p-":"")."$vboptions[bbtitle]. The site map for $vboptions[bbtitle].</p>\n"; [/PHP]

I'm having trouble adding this code. Everytime I do a search and replace I get an error. Unexpected <

Any ideas what I may have done wrong?

The following is an exact copy from this site. Hopefully vbulletin has not changed any of the characters in my posting of this:

Code:
echo "<p class=\"largefont\">$vbphrase[view_full_version]: <h1><a href=\"$vboptions[bburl]/\">$vboptions[bbtitle]</a></h1></p>
<p>".($p?"Page $p-":"")."$vboptions[bbtitle]. The site map for $vboptions[bbtitle] on Time2Dine.\n";
Seems to be exactly the same as what you have posted, so just be careful where you put it. I replaced the existing echo entirely with the above.

I realise that the last reply was almost two months ago (with this being a stickied thread I don't have to worry about bumping it... ) but I figured I'd say cheers for writing up such an informative and detailed guide to optimizing vBulletin. I even purchased a second copy of vBSEO recently.

Once again, thanks. Keep up the good work.

Pleased to be of service DMC. vbseo is certainly a great product, made even better with careful attention to the detail of your onpage optimization - as talked about on this forum.

There's certainly no arguements from me T2DMan, and I eagerly await what the vBSEO team has in store for the future.

Are you going to update this? I would like to post a reference to it on vBulletin-FAQ if you are.

With vBSEO installed do you still recommend blocking profiles, polls, attachments, printthreads, and single posts via robots.txt?

Been a while!

Good to hear from you, and Merry Christmas.

robots.txt is not something that I am spending much time with. Instead, I use the rel=nofollow to make sure that it they happen to be found, they have very little Google PR.

Because I don't consider the showposts are that nice to find in the serps, I use vbseo to have rel=nofollows on them, and exclude them from the xml sitemaps.

Yes, would be totally possible to devise a robots.txt for the rewritten url's you describe, I havn't bothered.
