Boy, it is a mission to find a decent Mexican Restaurant in New Zealand!
The Headless Mexican is definitely one of the better ones, but that doesn't mean that it isn't miles from being good or authentic.
I guess for people never having tasted Mexican Food, this would be the best compromise we have come across yet. The chicken burritos were actually quite decent, while the beef burritos weren't very Mexican at all.
Try this one before you waste your money (yeah, Mexican food is usually VERY cheap, not so in New Zealand) on any of the other places.

I must say our first visit to the Headless Mexican was a disapointeing experience and even an embarasement dare I say it. I decided to go for the baked fish which at $26 seemed to be at the higher price end of the menu but I wanted to go for something other than the standard Mexican fare. When it arrived the piece of fish was tiny, would not have cost more than $2 and it was so delicate it had broken up badly, not the ideal fish to be baking with spices I would have said. Even with the rice that came with it the dish would have made a small entre and was gone in a few mouthfuls, had it been a taste explosion it might have made up for it but sadly it was not. Everyone else at the table was embarased for me and ended up giving me part of their meals. I went to the chef and complained as I thought perhaps it was a one-off small piece of fish but he claimed he weighs them out the same each time. They reduced the price of it but overall not a particularly pleasant experience as I hate having to complain and the complaint was not well received by the chef! ALl the other meals that I sampled from friends were good value and tasty but I can't recommend the fish I'm afraid!

i have spent alot of time in mexico and find the food there is actually quite plain, where as the headless mexican spices things up a bit, its great A+ guys!!

i have read your other reviews and i dont think those people actually understand true mexican food!!
