| Not a good experience and we found the customer service very poor. I drink iced coffee wherever I go and think I have a good idea of what iced coffee should taste like. We stopped off at the Mustard Seed Cafe after traveling and feeling like a drink and a quick snack. We ordered a iced coffee, an iced mocha and an iceded chocolate and a piece of carrot cake each. This cost me $34.50 which I thought was rather expensive for a drink and a snack but never mind we were on holiday. We sat down with our carrot cake and awaited for our drinks. When they came to us and we tasted them they were terrible. They tasted like water. My daughter took them back to the counter and told the lady then another lady came out to the table to see what the problem was. I told the lady what we thought and we did not drink them at all. I asked if this person was the manager and we were informed that she was. Well she said to us "we make thousands of these and never had a complaint and that there was nothing wrong with them" and she walked away. We sat for a few minutes to see what was going to happen but nothing did. We were thirsty and wanted a drink and I actually thought they were either making another one or something but no. I went to the counter and asked for the manager again and she came out and said what is the problem. I said about the drinks and that we had just paid $34.50 and the drinks to me were undrinkable. She said again there was nothing wrong with the drinks. I was totally shocked that a manager had no customer service eticate at all. I said that I thought they would at least offer a cup of coffee or something as a replacement for the drinks that we returned but no there was nothing. No I am sorry that you didnt like them and can we either offer a coffee or a refund. She just walked away. |

I must set the record straight in answer to Sylvia. I have been visiting Mustard Seed for about 10 years or since they opened. sitting by fire in winter, and outside in the lovely rose garden on hot summer days has always been great experiences. try the Plum and Ginger cake. in fact ask for Steves cake I have it so often and I even ring ahead and order! the coffee is the best and the staff are all friendly friendly friendly as... Sylvia must have had a bad day & a frown or she got wrong cafe. It's top notch.

I stopped here today about 1.30pm - there were a few people around but it was not exceptionally busy. I ordered a coffee and soup and sat outside in the lovely garden with my 8 month old baby. My coffee arrived promptly and I had this while my baby had lunch. After about 20 minutes, she had finished and I noticed that people who had arrived later than I were leaving. I went inside and after waiting for some time for service, asked about my order. I went back outside and a staff member came out and I was then told that they had forgotten to put my order through and did I still want to wait. I would have been prepared to wait but by this time it seemed like they were wanting me to go. I then had to wait a further time for my refund and a limited apology. I thought it was very bad service and there didn't seem to be any reason for it. Could do better....

Yep. I agree that the service isn't great and you wait a long time for mediocre food....if it arrives... Your best bet is to go down the road to the Turangi bakery and pick up one of their steak and bacon pies. Much cheaper and possibly one of the best in the country. Sit on the grass outside the information centre and it is perfect!
