Default Red Eye Restaurant

I was interested, when coming to Wanganui recently, to try the local fare, as I do whenever I arrive somewhere different. Friends had recommended the Red Eye cafe, as it was apparently "my type of place".
They also said the Jolt Cafe was also my type of place.
Right on one count, Red eye was a wonderful experience, laid back, lovely courtyard, and the food:- I had a chicken salad it was divine.
Jolt I was not so keen on, it wasn 't as unique, food was the type you would expect in a lunchbar, and people were running to and fro to the next door cafe, which shared its outdoor space. I found that odd.
Trained as a barista, I saw merits in both coffee's, but would have expected better coffee from Jolt, as that is what it seems they do. Overtly strong. But just O.K. Not earth shattering.
Red Eye's Coffee was best I thought.
I was disconcerted to see a picture of blowflies in the Jolt Cafe, somehow, I felt they were off putting.
In saying Red Eye was a little dearer, but really well worth it.
Would recommend to any travellers like myself, for breakfast and lunch. Night menu looked good but I was unable to try it as I was leaving that afternoon.

Going home to family is a great thing, and then... I have been having a fabulous time at Wanganui. With the Cemetery Circuit, and the Jetboat Sprints, there has been plenty to do. The city looks amazing, and has been buzzing with the influx of visitors.

Well worth the effort coming all the way from Auckland.

Thanks for your review Sacha.

Thanks for your review Sacha.
I have um reviewed again, was quite excited about yet another experience at the Red Eye, a Month or so ago. I am sorry to say it is now Beige to say the least.
Drained of personality, it looks tired, Coffee was bad, Staff slovenly, Nothing like I remembered it. I have been down South working, so have not seen it since my last review.
I went to the bottom block of Town, as I knew that was where most of the coffee Houses are, but felt uninspired. Boring Wanganui pick up your act.
Had a nice coffee though at the le Vegas Cafe on the Riverbank, very nice old building, Coffee nice and hot food couldn't complain there, I was taking my time studyiong the Menu, and the owner asked what did I really feel like, as the "rush" hadn't started, she then had the Staff make it up for me, Lovely Salad, more people should be like the Manageress there you clients are your bread and butter.
I will return to Wanganui, I won't return to the Red Eye unless it changes immensely, people don't want Cafeteria Style budget food, from an upmarket Cafe. The Coffee was more expensive than Le Vegas and theirs was beautiful.
Nice friendly Staff, Nice Decor, Riverbank dining, and I noticed the Artwork on the Walls and was told it was done by the former artist at the Red Eye cafe'. Seems they have poached them as well.
