It's a rarity to have the kids somewhere else for the night and so when it happens, we love a sleep-in and a late brunch somewhere really relaxing. So it was we stumbled across Gotham in Chews Lane. Pleasant (and clever) decor with comfy and discrete booths, lighting dim but you can still what you were eating and some low key music in the background (yes, the background, not blaring in your ears!), likely some John Lee Hooker of Madeleine Peyroux. Blackboard menu had most of the standard brunch-y stuff at the usual types of prices so we thought why not. Service was helpful and friendly at the counter and coffee came promptly. But then the food........ ohmigod..... The brioche with fresh berries was divine, with the brioche melting in the mouth and just the right mix of sweet and tart. The BLAT with a drizzle of hollandaise on fresh sourdough was also superb. I didn't think doing a BLAT was that difficult, but I've had some bad ones in many places so coming across a good one has become sought after i my house. Coffee was also great, Service clearing was discrete and inobtrusive. All in all, great brunch.... we've been back several times since with similar good quality |
