Great food, great execution!
Oh I do love coming out of restaurant content on all fronts! Now there's no reservations here, this frightened us (we've been stuck waiting for a table at Matterhorn for 2 hours and in the end gave up!) so we made sure we went mid-week 6:30pm. The service throughout the evening was great, well done management. The interior is simple but classy, a nice bar area for those without reservations to sink their wallet into to. We were seated straight away, coats and bags taken for us, nice. We weren't all together starving so we didn't go an starter in favour of indulging at the end in cheese! For a main I selected the Braised Pork Belly with Beluga Lentils, Silverbeet and Young Carrots ($32). I cannot do this dish justice in words because it's all about texture, I cannot describe adequatly how the pork was just melt in the mouth soft. It was just so tender but holding it's shape, it's a credit to chef Chris Green. Vegetables matched it perfectly, go the lentil, I'm bringing back a revival of the humble lentil! I mistakenly had this with one of my favourite shiraz's from Australia (St Hallet's Faith - I was craving a glass!) when really I should of thought about it more. My partner's Little Creatures beer was that match! The fragrant hops in that beer matched the pork and provided carbonation to cut through the fattiness, next time! My partner had the Steak au Poivre with Borderlaise Sauce, Spinach & Gratin Potato ($31). A very well presented dish, the gratin cut into a perfect square, the sirloin sliced to show true cooking perfection! So we ended up swapping drinks to match beautifully, the peppery shiraz was wonderful with steak. Service was great, food great, if I had to pick anything and that's a struggle, I'd say the tables are a little too close togther along the couched wall. Don't go here expecting country French food, or the Parisian Haute Cuisine, this is Bistro food done to perfection.
