My girlfriend (who is from abroad) and I went for dinner here just before going to see a movie. We were halfway through out meals when my girlfriend pulled a hair out of the middle of her lamb saag.

Now: my girlfriend has long red hair; the one we extricated from the saag was medium-length and dark brown, if not black. So we call over the waitress, and she was apologetic and asked if we wanted a replacement saag. We replied that we had to leave shortly to catch the movie, and could she please just wipe the saag - and only the saag - from the bill. I said, "don't worry about mine, it's very nice, but you know, we can't finish that one." She disappears into the kitchen at that point, and in the meantime I asked my girlfriend if she could find the hair which she had dropped on the floor in disgust.

The portly owner gent then comes over and asks where the offending hair is. We said we couldn't find it, and he immediately says, "look, there it is" and reaches across T to pluck one from the edge of the tablecloth. It is utterly unclear whether it was the hair in question or not.

He then disappeared back into the kitchen. We were utterly confused at this point. I've worked hospo for 13 years in five countries, and I've never seen anything like this.

He comes back, and declares that it doesn't belong to any of his staff. We said, we don't want to argue with you mate, but it's not ours. He maintained that it was no fault of theirs, that the hair was "blonde", and then - then - puts the mystery hair back onto the table between the two of us, and continues to argue his point.

In that very kiwi way, we didn't want to make a fuss, so we went up to the counter and paid the gent - full price, mind - and left, incensed.

Not only will I not be returning; But I will be encouraging everyone I can never to go there. The owner was arrogant and unreasonable - as stubborn as an ass, and he ruined the rest of our evening.

Don't go there.
