The View of Wellington was fantastic, the Grilled Venison was even better. & I heard that the cast of King Kong were dining upstairs.

I've worked in over 20 Restaurants in Wellington and I must say that The White House Restaurant has the best food.... thanks to chef Paul Hoather.

The truffle aroma hits you as you walk through the door and it doesn't stop there. This chef loves truffle, from the complimentary appetiser to the entree to the main, you could eat it all night. A friend who ate there said he could even taste truffle the next day! The staff here should get a round of applause for being so well trained, know when to appear know and when to disappear. Entrees we tried were the Cured Pork Belly with Ginger and Lychee Jelly and Cashew Nam Jim ($24) and also the delectable Smoked Eel with Watercress Salad and Horseradish Cream ($26). Presentation was everything, looked devine. Pork belly was undercooked and chewy for my tastes, I like pork belly to be very well cooked almost gelatenous otherwise it's pork spare ribs without the bone. Eel was fantastic. For mains I had the Venison with Mushrooms, Truffle Foam and Porcini Porridge ($40). My partner had the Tea Smoked Duck Breast and Confit of Leg, with Sweet Potato and Orange Mash ($40). Both excellent, but I did feel the truffle was a little too overpowering by the end it's all I could taste. The dining room and view are very classy. Do yourself a favour, experience Wellington's best service, classy food and great views. Even better go on a Sunday night and take the best red wine you can possibly afford (only $5 corkage).

It stands up to it's reputation.

Husbo and I recently had a kid-free weekend in Wellington,and this was definitely the highlight of our trip.

Outstanding food, outstanding service.
The chef has toned down the truffle apparently as it appeared in onlya few dishes and in a truffle salt on the butter dish.

Our waiters were Blair and Ariana, both fantastic.

Seriously, save up and treat yourself to the White House.
