My partner and I dined at Tonic prior to deciding to make a monthly date with our friends to try out all of the restaurants in the area. This is most certainly going to be one of our choices. We each pick a different one each month.

Mike and I loved Tonic. Yes its a bit small and can be slightly overcrowded but the service was great - really friendly and on-to-it staff. Mike had the twice cooked pork belly and raved about it. He even asked the chef how he did it and yes Mike has cooked it for us at home (lucky me, Mike does all our cooking, I just clean up afterwards).

I had the fish which was also cooked to perfection. Topped off with a really lovely bottle of red wine.

I would highly recommend this place.

My January choice for our monthly dinner was Tonic as Colin and Loey had never been here before. The place has been carpeted since we were last here and the air conditioning was very welcome as it was such a hot night. Service was wonderful. Mike had the twice cooked pork belly again as did Colin. Both loved it. Loey went for the roast chicken and fettucini but wasnt too fussed over it - she felt it was something she would cook at home and not really up to the "dining out" standards. She said the fettucini tasted like a packet one. I had the hapuka which was great - not over cooked - just the way I like it.
